The Ukulele Orchestra of Great Britain is a group of all-singing, all-strumming ukulele players who believe that all genres of music are available for reinterpretation, as long as they are played on the ukulele! Since forming three decades ago, the orchestra has helped to build a new audience for what it calls the “bonsai guitar”, playing musically faithful but thoroughly tongue-in-cheek renditions of popular tunes. Their repertoire ranges from rock to folk, from classical to movie themes.
The ensemble has entertained audiences around the world at venues such as the Sydney Opera House, The Royal Albert Hall, and Carnegie Hall. By royal request, the orchestra proudly performed at a private 90th birthday party for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle.
“Absolutely the best of British” — Michael Palin
“Wonderfully clever” — David Bowie
