Post-performance Talk Back
His playing is illuminating in its detail, aided by what’s clearly a formidable technique.
— Gramophone (Jonathan Swensen)
Jonathan Swensen has more than justified his nomination by Gramophone as ‘One to Watch’. The Danish cellist, recipient of the 2022 Avery Fisher Career Grant, was awarded joint First Prize at the 2024 Naumburg International Cello Competition. He made his Vancouver debut in 2024 in a chamber trio alongside pianist Juho Pohjonen and violinist Stephen Waarts. This season we’re mixing things up! Jonathan returns for a duo recital with Juho Pohjonen, who will appear on our stage a week earlier with Stephen Waarts. Why not come to both?
Pearly touch, singing tone and sensitivity.
— The New York Times (Juho Pohjonen)
