Post-Performance Talk Back

Since her professional debut at the age of 11, this Canadian-South African cellist has performed as a soloist with orchestras in Europe and in South Africa. Luka won the Paulo Cello Competition and received First Prize at the Pablo Casals International Award competition. In addition, she graduated from the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto with First Class Honours in Piano.

Luka Coetzee’s warm tone is a joy to hear.

Jon Kimura Parker is no stranger to Vancouver audiences. He was born and raised here, studying with Keiko Parker and Edward Parker, and then Li Kum Sing at the Vancouver Academy of Music. He was accepted into Juilliard to study with the legendary Adele Marcus and, in 1984, was the first Canadian to win the First Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition. A bit of VRS history: as a result of that win in Leeds, the VRS rented the Orpheum Theatre for the very first time and presented him in a gala homecoming concert.

Mr. Parker was an insightful, energetic soloist… the audience roared in approval.
