Joyce DiDonato

In War and Peace: Harmony Through Music

Vancouver debut performance – one night only!

Winner of the 2012 Grammy Award for Best Classical Vocal Solo, Kansas-born Joyce DiDonato entrances audiences across the globe, and has been proclaimed “perhaps the most potent female singer of her generation” by The New Yorker. This concert explores the dichotomy of discord and harmony in times of war, through Joyce’s powerful interpretation of Baroque arias in a program that includes Monteverdi, Purcell, Handel, Leo, and Jommelli. Il Pomo d’Oro is a period instrument ensemble made up of a group of young musicians, under the direction of harpsichordist Maxim Emelyanychev, who are among the best to be found worldwide.

In the midst of chaos, how do you find peace?

“Perhaps my most personal project to date,” is how American mezzo-soprano Joyce DiDonato describes In War and Peace: Harmony through Music. Her ambitions for this collection of arias from Baroque operas are substantial. Surrounded as we are by instability, she hopes it will help us find an answer to a vitally important question: “In the midst of chaos, how do you find peace?
