16-year-old Christian Li captured international attention in 2018 when he became the youngest-ever winner of the Menuhin Competition, winning the joint Junior 1st Prize in Geneva, where he play-conducted a movement of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons. Performing with the Geneva Chamber Orchestra, he also received the Audience Prize and the Composer Award. In 2020, Christian became the youngest artist to sign with Decca Classics. His debut album featuring Vivaldi’s Four Seasons was released in August 2021 gathering five-star reviews. Catch him in his Canadian debut and you’ll be able to say “I heard him when…”

DANIEL LOZAKOVICH

This 22-year-old Swedish violinist is establishing himself as a sought-after artist on the international stage, with music-making that leaves both critics and audiences spellbound. “Perfect mastery. An exceptional talent,” observed Le Figaro after a performance at Verbier Festival. For his Vancouver debut, Daniel will be accompanied by Uzbek pianist Behzod Abduraimov, a “master of all he surveys” (The Times, London), and a regular and popular visitor to the VRS stage.

Jakub Józef Orliński made quite the impression when he appeared on our series in 2022. It was his Canadian recital debut and he sang to a packed and enthusiastic audience at the Playhouse. His career is now rapidly on the ascent and he is recognized as one of the most vibrant performers on the international concert scene, triumphing in both concerts and recordings, and attracting new followers to the art form (did we mention that he’s a champion breakdancer, too?). Jakub Józef will be joined by Il Pomo d’Oro, an ensemble of outstanding quality in the field of historically informed performance.

MAO FUJITA

CANADIAN DEBUT!

24-year-old Mao Fujita was only 17 and still studying at the Tokyo College of Music when he won First Prize and the Audience Prize at the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Switzerland. His captivating performances landed him the Silver Medal at the International Tchaikovsky Competition in 2019. Upon hearing him perform, Leila was smitten and booked him to visit Vancouver at the first possible opportunity. Mao’s meteoric rise is fascinating and extraordinary. He has a rare talent for Mozart which is why we have chosen an all-Mozart sonata program for his Canadian debut!
